AHF Successfully Advocates for Ouster of UNAIDS Chief
Always fighting for what’s right, AIDS Healthcare Foundation successfully advocated for the removal of UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé, who resigned amid charges of mishandling sexual harassment cases and abuse of power. In late 2018, AHF pressed for the release of a special report that found Sidibé had created a disturbing work culture that tolerated sexual harassment and abuse of authority. “Sunshine is the best disinfectant, and UNAIDS needs to be disinfected from a culture that encourages sex abuse and the promotion of predators,” said Michael Weinstein, president of AIDS Healthcare Foundation. “This cover-up has lasted long enough.” The report, and AHF’s advocacy, ultimately forced the UNAIDS chief out of his job.
